The Final Post

Well this is it, the final post. It's been a long and exciting journey. I hope all of you that have been following along, have been inspired to get out there and see some of the country that you haven't seen. It doesn't have to be as far away as we went, there is so much close to where we live that we haven't seen. I think we live in the greatest county on earth and I'm truly grateful to have been given the opportunity to enjoy so much of it.

So long for now, thanks for following along! Happy travels to you!

Home at Last

Today, Sunday, July 5, we head for home from Sparks, Nevada. Sixty-six days on the road, no regrets just lots of fun memories. Doodle, is having a bad hair day, but will be happy to be home.

California here we come!
Not sure what happened while we were gone, but everyone seems to leaving the state.

Still some snow on the mountains.

Oh, yea, were back, traffic delays are here.

We made it home! Now the unloading begins, it will take days, we took way to much stuff and acquired more a long the way.

Nevada

We crossed into Nevada on Friday evening. We drove straight through from Salt Lake City, we had thought we would stop in Winnemuka, but there was nothing there and it was hot. That was the most miles we put on in one day the whole trip.

Scenes coming from Utah to Sparks, Nevada.

Pretty most of the way.

We stayed in Sparks at the Marina RV Park. We were going to go home Saturday but everyone told us the fireworks would be great right here at the park. They shoot them off the top of the Nugget Casino, so we decided to stay until Sunday.

The park was really, really clean. Everything was paved, concreted or astro turfed.

Not dog friendly at all, everywhere you turned dogs were not allowed.

No dogs on the astro turf, not even to walk.

We would carry them from our 5th wheel to the dog walk so they wouldn't dare stop on the turf. If anyone in the park saw your dogs on the turf they were supposed to report you and they would receive $25. You would be fined $25. Not somewhere we will stop again, at least not if we have Snicker and Doodle with us.
It was kind of the running joke among the dog owners, that the Gestapo was watching.

We watched the fireworks with everyone else from the park. The Nugget spared no expense, it was a good show. No real good photos though.

Salt Lake City, Utah

We arrived in Salt Lake City on Wednesday. The drive was very pretty.

Lots of pretty scenery.

I got my very last Cracker Barrel for this trip. Salt Lake City is the last one before we arrive home.

We stayed at the KOA, it was a very pretty RV park, with lots of room to walk Snicker and Doodle. It was just one mile from downtown.

We have our state map on the door to the 5th wheel
, Utah was the last new state we got to add to the map.

We're done!

On Thursday night we attended a practice session for the Orchestra and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. They have a live broadcast on Sunday, but we were not staying until Sunday. Being the 4th of July weekend all their songs were very patriotic, it was very nice. They used to perform at the Tabernacle but now they have the Conference Center to perform, it holds 21,000.

This area is call Temple Square. It's really lovely, with all the flowers, fountains and buildings.

The Salt Lake City Temple. The statistics show about 40% of SLC is Mormon.

This office building is huge, right in Temple Square.

They have the largest Genealogy library in the world. A lot of people go there and search out their ancestry.

Salt Lake City is the capitol of Utah, and their state capitol building and grounds are beautiful.

It rained the whole afternoon of the only full day we were there so we idn't get to tour inside of any of the buildings.

The Great Salt Lake.

The Morton Salt plant.

More salt processing.

The salt flats.

A very interesting antenna.
